Twenty seven renewable energy executives, led by Robert Swan, OBE, first person to ski to both the North and South poles, are on board the vessel Sea Spirit headed to Antarctica on an expedition through March 27, 2011 to see firsthand the effects of climate change on Antarctica, and dialogue to develop the first Sustainability Report from Antarctica. The mission of the trip, as described by Swan was twofold: (1) Connecting the dots between the rapid effects of climate change in Antarctica to the solutions renewable energy provides in mitigating those effects and (2) Testing out renewable energy technology that will be utilized for a second Arctic Expedition, being led by Sir Robert Swan in December, 2012. The expedition today left port in Ushuaia, Argentina, under a rainbow that formed to see them off, to cross the most dangerous sea in the world, the Drake Passage.
Follow the Expedition as we cross the Drake, develop the first Sustainability Report from Antarctica, and explore the last wilderness on Earth.
