Center for Economic Research (CER)

A key objective of the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) is to illuminate policy makers and thought leaders on the benefits of integrating renewable energy into our nation's energy future.

To achieve this effort, ACORE has launched a policy program aimed at communications and data development for policy makers, media and thought leaders to promote all renewable energy options and to talk about their significant role in the U.S. economy, building on the strength of our 500+ member organizations.

This site will be a resource center supporting the case that investment in the renewable energy industry from finance to venture, to sound & certain public policy is the way to achieve the following goals:

  • To establish a policy framework that enables the scale up of renewable energy to significant levels
  • To maximize policy support at the federal and state levels for a viable renewable energy manufacturing and service industry located in the USA
  • To encourage policy at state and local levels to support the creation of green businesses and jobs

We invite all ACORE Members, whether they be associations, non-profits, corporations, professional service firms, universities, utilities or other types of organizations to actively engage with ACORE's policy program as we work together to build the case for renewable energy under three coordinated program components: The Center for Economic Research; Federal & State Policy Advocacy; Policy Communications Program.

The Center for Economic Research

The Center for Economic Research is the analytical and policy cornerstone of ACORE.

The Center serves as a vehicle for strategic analysis and also as a rapid response forum to articulate, model and consider potential outcomes and impacts of renewable energy policy options and challenges.

Objectives of The Center for Economic Research

  • To pioneer thought leadership on how the economics of renewable energy are changing the energy industry to become part of the solution for energy independence for the United States and globally;
  • To focus on economics-based and data-driven research and analysis to produce objective policy options in the form of published briefing papers and policy reports;
  • To convene influential decision-makers in the private and public sectors to focus on the economic and public benefits of renewable energy for the economy, environment and energy independence goals for the nation.

Institutional Structure of the Center for Economic Research

  • Economics Council: The Council will be composed of current and former economics and finance leaders who bring extensive international expertise and insight to the Center for Economic Research. The Council will meet semi-annually to discuss the implications of the changing economic and strategic energy environment. Council members will participate actively in the substantive work of the Center by guiding projects and publications to fulfill ACORE’s mission to build a more energy independent world.
  • Chief Economist: The Center will host a visiting Chief Economist on a yearly contract who will undertake a special research effort on the economics of renewable energy. This position will augment new ideas and perspectives together with the capacity to project cutting-edge analysis back to influential academic, institutional, governmental and financial communities during the course of the appointment and beyond.
  • Center Director & staff: The Center’s Director will manage its overall operations and build its substantive agenda in renewable energy in the context of energy independence and climate policy agendas. Substantive program development will include convening roundtable forums both domestic and international; publications ranging from government policy reviews analyzing tax incentives to commissioned reports; establishing an Economics Committee of ACORE members. The Economics Committee will be composed of economics, finance and policy leaders who will meet regularly to discuss the work of experts in the field of renewable energy. We will invite all ACORE Members whether they be associations, corporations, professional service firms, universities, utilities or other types of organizations to actively engage with the Center and its projects as we work together to build the economic case for renewable energy throughout the United States.
