windThe American Council on Renewable Energy's International Programs invites you to a roundtable discussion on trends in global renewable energy trade and its implications on regional economic development. The event will feature three regionally-focused panels from Asia, Europe and Latin America/Caribbean. Speakers will represent three vital sectors: private, government and non-profit.

The roundtable will gather industry executives and stakeholders to discuss the current state of international trade policy. We will explore tariff and non-tariff related trade measures, particularly renewable energy subsidies and procurement. Specifically, we will look at their relevance in promoting renewable energy growth globally and their overall implications on trade. Participants will discern how various multinational and bi-lateral organizations and initiatives are addressing market and trade-related barriers to renewable energy deployment globally. Additionally, on October 16 we will host a Leadership Council Dinner to convene business leaders working toward strengthening US-China bilateral trade relations.

Perspectives from Asia

Panel hosted by the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA)

This panel, to be led by the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA), will focus on trade and investment issues related to Asian-Pacific countries. Panelists will address current solar trade opportunities, advocating standards and conformance solutions to spur healthy market competition. SEIA will discuss its support for the creation of an "Environmental Technologies Partnership" housed within APEC, advancing collaboration between clean energy industries in the U.S. and Asian-Pacific countries.

Perspectives from Latin America and the Caribbean

Panel hosted by the Latin American & Caribbean Council On Renewable Energy (LAC-CORE)

LAC-CORE's leadership in Latin America's renewable energy sector will faciliate an inclusive, beneficial discussion on burgeoning renewable energy investments in the LAC region. Growth remains robust in Latin America; investors from Asia, the U.S. and Europe alike increasingly look to the region for further policy and business development cooperation. Discussion will also focus on how and where LAC governments and businesses can encourage investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Perspectives from Europe

Panel hosted by the European Institute

Europe's global trade relationship, as one of the largest producers and consumers of renewable energy, significantly impacts the industry. In this panel, led by the European Institute, we will dicuss how waning governmental subsidies and the current economic crisis affect renewable energy trade in the region.

Please join us for this timely discussion on the state of global renewable energy trade.  After a short presentation by each of our panelists, the floor will be open for questions from participants.
