Admiral Dennis McGinn, President of the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) Receives NRG Sustainable Futures Award
Award recognizes sustainable innovation that enhances lives, improves business & builds communities
LANDOVER, MD; November 18, 2012—Today in a brief on-field ceremony at FedEx Field during the Washington Redskins versus Philadelphia Eagles football game, Admiral Dennis McGinn (USN, Ret.), President and CEO of ACORE will receive the NRG Sustainable Futures Award presented by Arun Banskota, President of eVgo, an NRG Energy company that is building the nation's first comprehensive, privately funded electric vehicle charging network.
"Admiral McGinn is well respected for a long career as an advocate for innovative and creative uses of environmentally, technically and economically viable energy solutions in America," said Banskota. "NRG and eVgo are very focused on advancing technologies that give consumers green choices such as enabling greater adoption of zero-emission electric vehicles. Through the NRG Sustainable Futures Award, we can recognize the Admiral, his leadership of ACORE and their support of sustainable innovation and business practices that help change the way people think about and use energy."
In 2011, Vice Admiral McGinn took the helm as President of ACORE where he advances the organization's mission of building a secure and prosperous America with clean, renewable energy. Under McGinn's leadership, ACORE has refocused its efforts in finance, policy, technology, and market development, concentrating its member focus in three strategic areas: National Defense & Security; Power Generation & Infrastructure; and Transportation. In 2012, ACORE launched www.EnergyFactCheck.org, a website designed to rebalance the debate about renewable energy, providing fact-based information to counter misinformation about the industry.
Admiral McGinn is a widely-recognized energy and national security expert, also serving as co-chairman of the CNA Military Advisory Board, and as an international security senior fellow at the Rocky Mountain Institute. McGinn's continued commitment to bettering the nation follows a 35-year career with the U.S. Navy where he served as Commander of the U.S. Third Fleet, a naval aviator, test pilot, aircraft carrier commanding officer, and national security strategist.
"I would like to thank NRG and eVgo for this award which also recognizes the success of ACORE, an organization of member companies working to attain the common goal of building a more secure and prosperous America with clean, renewable energy," said McGinn. "Like ACORE, NRG and eVgo are helping to create a 21st century, multi-modal transportation system powered by renewable fuels and energy. This new generation of transportation infrastructure will generate trillions in new economic value and improve our environment while enhancing the resilience and security of America."
