ACORE Makes Third Commitment to Clinton Global Initiative, NEW YORK, Sept. 28 -- The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE), a Washington DC-based non-profit organization, today made its third commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), meeting this week in New York City. With funding from Rockefeller Brothers Fund, ACORE is committing to advance a more robust policy and economic case for renewable energy solutions and to amplify influential voices to strengthen public understanding of climate change. The commitment will create RECAP -- the Renewable Energy Communications and Policy program -- a three-year campaign that will put forward critical policy and economic analysis on energy supply, environment and climate, economic development and jobs, and national security. “ACORE is pleased and honored to be acknowledged by the Clinton Global Initiative,” said Michael Eckhart, ACORE President, “and now we begin the process of raising the $25 million program budget.” The centerpiece of the initiative is establishing a new position at ACORE entitled Chief Economist of Renewable Energy, who will lead in-depth analysis of the economic, financial and tax implications of shifting the nation towards renewable energy. “We believe,” said Eckhart, “that careful analysis will show that these answers favor renewable energy over the status quo. Renewable energy offers the nation a technological revolution that will bring investment opportunities, jobs, economic growth, and lower taxes as well as the widely-anticipated benefits for the environment, human health and climate.” The RECAP plan will establish a network of the nation’s best and brightest analysts to work in a collaborative manner to develop these answers. It also includes a new communications program to project the new answers into the media and directly to key audiences. This unique work builds on ACORE's 2006 commitment to CGI to host a world meeting on renewable energy, which has now been successfully organized, and is scheduled to be held as the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC 2008) on March 4-6, 2008 in Washington, DC. The co-located Trade Show at WIREC 2008 also is to occur at the Washington, DC Convention Center.
