ACORE’s Transportation Initiative launched in early 2012 to position our organization at the intersection of the renewable energy industry and the transportation sector. ACORE recognized this as an important opportunity for a number of reasons:
- By promoting growth in renewable fuels, alternative vehicles, and energy efficiency, we will significantly improve our nation’s energy security, public health, and economic viability.
- By focusing on all modes of transportation and all sources of energy and fuel, we have the opportunity to unite these diverse sectors into one inclusive conversation about energy, mobility, and infrastructure
- By encouraging investment in our nation’s aging and over capacity transportation infrastructure, we have the opportunity to incorporate new, renewable technologies into our vast system of roads, transit systems, ports, and airports
Throughout the past year, ACORE has undertaken a number of activities to promote this new initiative, including an Initiative launch event in March, a Transportation and Renewable Energy Industry Forum in July, and two days of discussions at our recent RETECH conference last week. All of these events centered on cross-cutting conversations that sought to find common opportunities and challenges among the various modes of transportation and energy sources represented.
Moving forward, ACORE’s Transportation Advisory Committee—a group of ACORE members across the industry committed to a transportation system that emphasizes renewable energy and fuels—is developing a Roadmap for 21st Century Transportation. This guide will provide a view of the transportation landscape with an emphasis on technology, policy, finance, and market development.
Our nation’s transportation system—the planes, trains, buses, and cars that move goods and people across our country—are ripe with opportunity to decrease our dependency on oil and increase our investment in renewable fuels and energy that will transform our system and secure our energy and economic future.
