Renewable Energy In America - the Call for Phase II
A national energy policy conference was held on December 7, 2004, organized by the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) and the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) in conjunction with the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucuses of the US Senate and US House of Representatives.
500 leaders in renewable energy policy, finance and industry convened on December 7, 2004 in the Caucus Room of the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC to chart a new path for energy policy called “Phase II.”
Phase I began in the 1970s with a goal of developing new energy technologies to address our energy challenges. With $14 billion spent on our best and brightest engineers and scientists, the renewable energy technology program has succeeded.
Phase II now focuses the nation’s efforts on putting these magnificent new technologies to use in our society, with benefits for energy supply, national security, economic growth, investment, jobs, a cleaner environment, reduced risk of climate change, and improved health.
The conference embraced 24 nationally-acclaimed speakers who came together to declare the beginning of Phase II, and to call upon the renewable energy community to come forward with bold policy proposals that fit together in a Phase II framework.
