Utility Committee

ACORE encourages its members to participate actively in the organization. Through participation, members not only take an active role in shaping the future of renewable energy, but they also develop working relationships with national leaders in their business field and government.

ACORE's Utility Committee is chartered around three key activities: information exchange, networking opportunities and education on renewable energy concepts and topics of interest to member utilities.

As key "implementers" of renewable energy activities, utilities will play a very important role in promoting a cohesive, fact-based and accurate message to the public on the benefits and costs of renewable energy resources.

All U.S. utilities, including investor-owned utilities, municipally-owned utilities and customer-owned cooperatives, as well as federally-managed utilities, are encouraged to become members of ACORE and participate on the Utility Committee.

Key issues expected to be addressed by the Utility Committee include:

  • Implementation issues associated with renewable energy programs, including regulatory-based initiatives such as Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), both at the state and federal levels;
  • Green pricing programs, and their role as a market-oriented vehicle to increase awareness and understanding of renewable energy, and to grow demand for renewable energy as well;
  • High-level success stories from utilities that have adopted renewable energy growth strategies, the basis for doing so, and how utilities can share both challenges and successes related to such strategies;
  • Analysis of specific case studies of successful renewable energy programs and policies at member utility companies, and other practical, in-the-field success stories; and
  • Exchange of operational and technical data between utilities and outside the utility community in order to facilitate learning and adoption of best practices with regard to renewable energy initiatives and experiences.
