For Immediate Release – September 5, 2013

Washington, DC – The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) announced this week that American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) Board Member Audrey Zibelman has been officially designated as Commission Chair. The primary mission of the PSC is to ensure safe, secure, and reliable access to public utilities for New York State’s residential and business consumers.

“I am honored and grateful that Governor Cuomo has offered me this leadership position on the Commission,” said Ms. Zibelman. “I believe that my 25 years of work and experience in the public utility sector, as well as the renewable energy knowledge and insight I have gained from my time on the Board at ACORE, will enable me to better serve the people of New York.”

Audrey Zibelman is the Founder and previous President and Chief Executive Officer of Viridity Energy, Inc. She formed Viridity after more than 25 years of electric utility industry leadership experience in both the public and private sectors. She is a recognized national and international expert in energy policy, markets, and Smart Grid innovation. Prior to forming Viridity, Ms. Zibelman was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of PJM, a Regional Transmission Organization that operates the world’s largest wholesale power market and serves 14 states throughout the eastern United States. While there she was responsible for all aspects of PJM’s transmission planning, market grid operations and corporate administration.

“Congratulations to my good friend Audrey Zibelman on her appointment to lead the New York Public Service Commission,” said Michael Brower, ACORE interim president and CEO. “I have respected Audrey’s talent and ability for years now. She has always been a leader in the renewable energy sector and her leadership and guidance are vital to advancing ACORE’s triple-bottom line view of renewable energy for energy security, economic vitality and environmental security. The people of New York have just landed a valuable advocate on their side.”

“Through her participation on the ACORE Board of Directors, Audrey Zibelman continues to strengthen the organization’s goal of building a more secure and prosperous America with clean, renewable energy,” said Dan Adler, Co-chair of ACORE’s Board of Directors. “She is an advocate for diversification of our energy portfolio to increase energy security and deliver clean, low-cost and abundant energy to America. Her leadership of the New York Public Service Commission will provide Audrey a great platform from which to spread the word on the reliability of renewable energy. The people of New York now have a valuable advocate on their side.”
