Sydney McNiff Johnson of Dentons US LLP to fill seat on ACORE Board of Directors

Washington, D.C., May 1, 2014—The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) is pleased to announce the recent election of Sydney McNiff Johnson, principal at Dentons US LLP, to the ACORE board of directors on April 28, 2014.

Sydney enjoys more than 30 years of energy policy experience, starting with her work on Capitol Hill with Congressman Pete McCloskey (R-CA) in 1978 as Energy and Environmental Legislative Assistant. She also serves on the board of directors of the Women's Council on Energy and Environment (WCEE), the National Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the Chairman's Council of Conservation International. Sydney obtained her BA in Political Science and Economics from the Colorado College.

"I am honored to join the Board of ACORE, and look forward to the opportunity to help advance ACORE’s important mission.” Sydney said. “I have devoted my career to the challenges of bringing clean renewable energy sources to market.  I am eager to work with the Board and ACORE’s members on these critical energy security issues."

ACORE board co-chair, Dan Reicher, welcomed Sydney to the board, commenting “I have known Sydney for many years and she will do great things for ACORE – and renewable energy generally – with her broad background, deep relationships in the energy and philanthropic communities, and real passion for advancing renewables.”  ACORE board co-chair, Dan Adler, also welcomed Sydney, commenting “Sydney brings more diversity to the ACORE board. Her insight and skillset are ideal for what ACORE needs now and into the future.”

As a key member of one of the world's largest global energy practices, Sydney routinely engages her strategic insight on project management for energy clients, using her formidable communications strategies to increase client visibility and direct public opinion among the governmental and commercial sectors.

Clint Vince, chair of Dentons’ energy practice said, "In Sydney you have the perfect combination of passion for clean energy issues coupled with a deep understanding of the energy industry.  It is a powerful combination that our practice benefits from daily.  We are very proud of Sydney and are confident she will be a tremendous asset to the ACORE board."

ACORE’s President and CEO, Michael Brower applauded Sydney’s election saying, “As the newest member of the ACORE board, Sydney brings a wealth of internationally and nationally recognized experience and highly respected insight and vision to ACORE,” said Brower. “Her new role advancing our vision and mission comes at a strategic time for the renewable energy industry, as renewables now lead a triple-bottom-line national security, economic security and environmental security energy transformation in the U.S. and around the world. Today, solutions in Washington and overseas call for true diplomacy, a deft hand, and clear vision; which are professional qualities that Sydney possesses in abundance.”
