Federal government to triple renewable energy goals and increase government-wide energy efficiency and sustainability
For Immediate Release – December 5, 2013
Washington, DC - The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) praised President Obama’s signing of the Presidential Memorandum (PM) Federal Leadership on Energy Management which directs the federal government to implement elements of his Climate Action Plan (CAP) - first laid out in June 2013 - and to begin supporting and enforcing broader renewable energy and energy efficiency goals nationwide. His action today reinforces government-wide energy efficiency and sustainability goals. ACORE has worked closely with the Administration in support of the Climate Action Plan which includes increasing amounts of renewable energy generation for government and non-government use.
"Thanks to President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, we have a tremendous opportunity to build a more secure and prosperous America with clean, renewable energy. The renewables industry has grown at great speed over the last several years and as more private investment funds deployment, more jobs will be created, more carbon emissions will be reduced, and the United States will be all the better for it," explained Michael Brower, ACORE’s Interim President and CEO. “Right now, the Climate Action Plan is the most comprehensive approach to strengthening the economy, creating more high-paying green-energy jobs, diversifying our energy mix, and beginning the long overdue mitigation of climate change and reduction of carbon emissions.”
“The government is now leading by example, and it is time for the great American private sector to follow their lead and make sure they are doing everything practicable to aid in this most important effort. The issue here should not be a political one. We need to address climate change, and renewable energy is the winning solution to do so,” concluded Brower.
ACORE, a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization, is dedicated to building a secure and prosperous America with clean, renewable energy. ACORE seeks to advance renewable energy through finance, policy, technology, and market development and is concentrating its member focus in 2013 on National Defense & Security, Power Generation & Infrastructure, and Transportation.
